Shiva 2006 is new version of Ram Gopal Varma’s Shiva that was released 17 years back. Shiva 2006 deals about an honest cop dealing with the corrupted police system and police-criminal nexus. Except the protagonist’s name and some elements here and there, it has no similarities to the original film. Shiva 2006 has its own story and milieu. Shiva 2006 is more of an action thriller that elevates ‘heroism.’

A world where the law belongs to the lawless, Bullets, swords, daggers, belts and acid are weapons are used to suppress the ambitions to build a better society. A world that shows the ministers as a corrupt lot and cops, hand –in- glove with gangsters. A system infested with criminals. A lone fighter emerges to battle the evil and stands undaunted. That is the plot of our new Shiva.
Ram Gopal Varma discoveries, Mohit Ahlawat and Nisha Kothari, were first seen in James. Ram Gopal Varma introduced the two with Rohit Jugraj as director. The film came in silence and faded away in solitude. Failures cannot be a king’s agenda. So, though wounded, he went ahead to prove his launches right and viable- Ram Gopal Varma took over helm of things, regrouped his strategies and made Shiva.

Ace filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma now takes on the corrupted police system in this film. Throughout the film, Ram Gopal Varma’s distinct style of taking dominates the film than its content. Actually there is not much story but Ram Gopal Varma narrates with intense action sequences and high standard music.
While the first half is just an okay, post interval scenes and action elements are shot in novel way. But on the whole, Shiva is disappointing with a few scenes of gruesome violence on display. At a time when Hindi cinema is going Hollywood, Shiva’s outdated plot may jar.

In DOR, the new outing, the efficient storyteller tells the story of two women, reportedly based on a real-life incident. More than anything else, Kukunoor ought to be complimented for having the courage to make his kind of cinema. A number of scenes in DOR leave you spellbound and the locales of Rajasthan only give DOR a distinct flavor.
Zeenat-reticent, gentle yet strong willed working girl married to Aamir. Meera-vivacious child-woman, oppressed Rajput bahu married Shankar. A tragic incident binds the two strangers with a common thread entwining their lives.

This is Kukunoor’s most expensive film so far, evident from the grand scale, the lavish locales and technical slickness, which clearly distinguish Dor from the others.
DOR tells the story of love, loss, friendship, hope and ultimately, redemption. It is a tale of two women from two different worlds. In ways that neither Zeenat nor Meera can perceive, their worlds are about to collide. A life-changing piece of news reaches both women at the same instance and sets into motion a series of events that will change their lives forever.
Like Ayesha Takia- a natural born performer, and even former model Gul Panag whose awkwardness and stiffness actually seems apt for her role! Sudeep Chatterjee’s cinematography is excellent. He composes and constructs stylized but simple images, which don’t scream for attention, but unassumingly, add unto create the film’s striking overall visual design.
